In what could be a stunning development, M.S. Dhoni could return as captain of Chennai Super Kings on home soil for the IPL league encounter against Delhi Capitals at the MAC Stadium on Saturday.
This comes in the wake of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad being a doubtful starter for the team’s fourth match after he copped a blow to his forearm while batting in the previous game against Rajasthan Royals.
Ruturaj batted through pain in the team’s six-run loss to the Royals at Guwahati, and in case the 28-year-old doesn’t recover in time, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey hinted the former captain could take over.
When asked who could lead the side in Ruturaj’s absence, Hussey cheekily said, “We have got a young guy coming through. He’s behind the stumps. Maybe he can do a good job. I’m not sure. He’s got a bit of experience in the role, so maybe he could do it.”
Commenting on Ruturaj’s fitness, Hussey added, “He is going to try to get a bat today. And, yeah, it’s still a little bit sore, but it’s improving every day. So, we are very hopeful and confident that he’ll be fine tomorrow.”
