The world of Bollywood is filled with captivating stories, both on and off-screen. Recently, Raveena Tandon shared a chilling anecdote from the set of 'Laadla,' starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and herself, revealing a moment that sent shivers down everyone's spines.
Initially, the late Divya Bharti was cast in the role eventually played by Sridevi. She even filmed several scenes before her tragic and unexpected passing. Her death sent shockwaves through the industry and necessitated a recasting of her role.
Raveena Tandon recounted the emotional experience of reshooting a particular scene she had originally filmed with Divya Bharti and Shakti Kapoor. During the initial shoot, Divya had repeatedly struggled with a specific line of dialogue, requiring numerous retakes.
Months after Divya Bharti's death, production resumed with Sridevi taking over the role. Incredibly, Sridevi encountered the exact same line that Divya had previously fumbled.
"We all had goosebumps on the set," Raveena Tandon recalled, highlighting the eerie atmosphere that permeated the set. It was as if Divya Bharti's presence lingered.
The strange coincidence and the heavy emotional atmosphere led the cast and crew to seek solace in spirituality. Together, they began chanting the Gayatri Mantra, hoping to bring peace and positive energy to the set. Raveena Tandon shared, "I held Sridevi’s hand and prayed." In addition, the team broke a coconut, a traditional ritual to ward off negativity and signify a fresh start, before resuming filming.
Despite the emotional challenges faced during production, 'Laadla' was successfully completed and released on March 25, 1994. The film became a blockbuster hit, with many attributing its success to the unseen presence and blessings of Divya Bharti throughout its journey.
